100% Records Continue

The Waterlooville first and second elevens continued their 100% records as both sides ran out winners this past weekend.

The first team entertained Havant II at Rowlands Avenue on a pitch that produced over 500 runs.  Batting first the Ville made their way to a very competitive 294-5 from their 50 overs, largely thanks to an excellent century from Alex Shephard (116) and overseas star Sam Williams (78) who shared a stand of 146.  Jon Hudson (40) was also in the runs and put on a century stand with Shephard also.  Havant's reply was looking dangerous at drinks but some tight bowling from the Ville bowlers soon applied the pressure and they we left short at 248-9 with Hudson the pick of the bowlers with 3-40 and the rest of the wickets shared around.

The IIs travelled across the water to the Island for a fixture with Ryde II, after losing the toss on what could only be described as a 'road' they looked as though they may be in for a long afternoon in the field.  However some an excellent opening spell from Ash Silva and Fin Rockett made the going tough for Ryde; with the score at 97-3 at drinks it seemed a total of around 230 would be the target.  The Ville responded well after the drinks break and soon broke a dangerous fourth wicket partnership eventually restricting Ryde to 160-8 from their 45.  Fin Rockett picking up 4-21 from his ten and ably supported by his colleagues on a flat pitch with a fast outfield.  In reply the target was never going to be enough as Matt Charman (91*) and Tom Farley (59*) flayed the bowling to all parts in an excellent unbroken opening stand of 163 that gave the Ville a resounding 10 wicket victory and an earlier ferry home!

Great work all round and all three sides will be back in action this coming weekend (the thirds having had a bye week last time out).

Up the Ville!
